hyposurface

the "hyposurface" is a physically moving surface, wich displays images and structural forms in a three dimansional way. as the video shows, it's possibal to use it for visualizing sounds in 3d, displaying commercial or also for giving walls a "living" touch.

blu

the artists of a city and especially the street artist today, are the ones who really interact with their city's. the average occupant only acts interactive with the city if it's given to him, for excample by us. the artist on the other hand, surches for his own niche and his own interactive option within the city.
one excample for such an "interactive city user" is the street artist "blu", who has worked in lots of the big cities all over the world and is well known in the street art scene.
here is one amazing excample of his work:

polygon playground

this sculpture designed by WHITEvoid is an interactive structure wich can be intended with different light programs so that the user/visitor get's different impressions of the polygon's form. this causes that the fixed form of the "playground" get's, just by changing the light programm, totally different usage, just as if the form has changed itself.

working out an impalpable structure

draft no. 1 / © Sara Lusic-Alavanja
Taking some pictures on the streets made me think about a structure that was created by photographing lights with a long exposure time. I would like to transfer this with a solid (or fluid) material into a "true" / tactile structure. This one can be viewed without a mediator.

II

Another work by Carsten Nicolai about that fact that we get way more information than we can understand.
This fact is transfered in form of a chiffre that can not be read.

chiffre

"Today's world is confronted with an information flood whose decipherment is a challenge to logic. Both panels, entitled chiffre, cannot be decoded. Since their intrinsic logic is insufficient access depends on the degree of vision. Unambiguous decoding is denied − similar to texts that have been written in unknown alphabets. As soon as the logic of a language is deciphered it loses imaginativeness becoming a one-dimensional statement. The bar code-directed panels recombine to form new combinations legible only by abstract means."

Cultural Criticism and Internet Activism

I guess there's no other site with that much information about the web/digital media and its interaction with our lives.
It also contains MANY essays about the topic, like the one linked before.

How to combine different film/media for a certain effect.
This example by Harun Farocki also emphasis that within media you can underline somthing that is happening, or you can simply turn everything around.

Harun Farocki, Phantom Images, in: Public, Number 29: Localities, Ed. by Saara Liinamaa, Janine Marchessault and Christian Shaw, Toronto 2004, p. 12-24

"A computer can process pictures, but it needs no pictures to verify or falsify what it reads in the images it processes. Fot the computer, the image in the computer is enough. Nevertheless, the “objective language” pictures are distinct by degrees from the “meta-linguistic" pictures, much as the aesthetics of the machine are distinct from commodity aesthetic. And the axe of Roland Barthes's lumberjack is not simply a manifestation of goal-related rationality: even a tool communicates not only with the materials of its trade, but also with the human senses." Wireless Hotspots in Public Spaces

NYCwireless: "NYCwireless promotes open wireless hotspots in public spaces throughout the New York region. These public spaces include parks, coffee shops, and building lobbies. NYCwireless intends to work with public and other nonprofit organizations to bring broadband wireless Internet to under-served communities."

hello web tv

Putpat is a new kind of music television via internet.
After its test phase it's going to be available for everyone. Putpat users will have the chance to create their own music program while Putpat itself is going to analyse the music habits of each user. As you proceed listening to music you enjoy, Putpat will search for new music that you might like, in order to create a well fitting playlist for you.
This version of interactive television might be similar to the last.fm radio player, but the videos make it even more special, especially since youtube is running out of music.

landmarks

promotion in city does not work just as information medium. better: medium of consumer good.

its working as landmark, too. used as meeting point. because of its extraordinary (lights, size, style, etc) we automatically have to sense it.
its subliminally ,leading' us.

nice to meet you

Something changed on our favorite internet platform facebook. It appears in a new look that helps you easily check out everything (ir-) relevant happening in your friends lives, unfortunately most facebook users do not enjoy this new layout. Thankfully facebook offers an effective help -> GROUPS like "change facebook back to normal!! " (or else what?)
By now over 1 million people have joined this group and similar ones. Somehow the web- world does affect people as much as the real world.
Having millions of people protesting against some minor changes on the internet platform seems to be quite fascinating and typical of a new web-society, while getting 1 million people together protesting against something more important than a layout might be rather difficult these days. It's surely not the last time that web-life has such an impact on today’s society.

Working with interactivity and digital structures doesn't have to be noisy.
What might describe Carsten Nicolai's work best is a sensitivity that wants us to be patient and observant.
